Leading The Way To Better Health |
Nutrition ServicesWinneshiek Medical Center's dietitians work with the medical team to develop the nutritional aspects of patient care. This may involve calculating diets, formulating tube feedings and educating patients. Dietitians also provide meals to the homebound through the Mobile Meals and Heat and Eat programs. A dietitian presents public programs and teaches classes on nutrition and its relation to disease, and how proper nutrition can reduce the risk of disease. Dine AnytimeWinneshiek Medical Center offers "Dine Anytime," a program designed to give patients more control over what and when they eat during their hospital stay. It allows patients to order when hungry, after medication wears off, or tests or procedures have been completed. Increased food intake helps patients recover more quickly and fight infections. This "room service"-type dining is an excellent enhancement to patient care. The "Dine Anytime" menu includes a full breakfast selection available all day, grill items, pizza, deli items, salads, entrées and desserts. It even offers a "Kids Corner" with kid-friendly cuisine such as grilled cheese, peanut butter and jelly and chicken strips. Visitors can dine with patients for just $5 per tray. Patients can select from the menu, which designates heart-healthy and higher sodium items. If a patient selects a food item that is not consistent with the diet ordered by their doctor, the nutrition staff will help the patient make a different selection. The patient's meal will be delivered within 45 minutes of placing the order. Patients may place their meal orders between 7:00 a.m. and 6 p.m. each day.
