Emergency Department
Each year, Winneshiek Medical Center's Emergency Department treats nearly 7,200 patients - for everything from catastrophic injury or illness to scraped knees and sore throats. The new 14,000 square foot Emergency Department opened in February of 2007 and is equipped with state-of-the-art trauma equipment and staffed by a dedicated, experienced team of physicians, nurses, paramedics and technicians, Winneshiek Medical Center offers quick response when seconds count.
The Emergency Department is home base for Winneshiek Medical Center Paramedic Services, a group of highly skilled paramedics and emergency medical technicians (EMTs) who provide rapid ambulance response to accidents and other emergencies. Winneshiek Medical Center also offers life-saving aeromedical transportation to tertiary care centers, including Mayo Clinic, Gundersen Lutheran and the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics. The Winneshiek Medical Center Emergency Department is staffed by Decorah Clinic Physician-Mayo Health System 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to offer comprehensive treatment and services for minor and major injuries or illness, as well as serious traumas. Our goal is to provide high-quality patient care, close to home. Winneshiek Medical Center's emergency staff are among the most qualified and experienced in the region. In addition, staff participate in continuing education to ensure patients receive the most up-to-date treatment available.
