Vestibular rehabilitation is physical therapy treatment of dizziness and balance disorders.
A qualified physical therapist performs a thorough examination and evaluation of the patient. The therapist will then develop an individualized treatment plan that includes specific head, body, or eye exercises to be performed in the therapy setting and/or at home.
For individuals with acute BPPV, a series of movements and positions can quickly correct the problem and resolve the symptoms. For individuals with chronic dizziness and/or imbalance, vestibular rehab may involve additional exercises or activities to retrain the balance system.
