Breast Health & Imaging

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting women today. Education and regular screenings improve the chances of detecting cancer in its earliest stages – when it is most treatable.

The American Cancer Society suggests:

  • A screening mammogram every year starting at age 40. If you have a family history of breast cancer, you should consult with your doctor for advice on when to begin a baseline mammogram.
  • A breast self-exam every month starting at age 20.
  • A clinical breast exam every year if you are age 40 or over; every 3 years for women age 20-39.

Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah offers 3D mammograms.  Winneshiek Medical Center combines revolutionary imaging technology that provides sharper images, with softer, warmer breast cushions to provide a more positive experience.
