The Monroe family chooses Mayo Clinic Health System for primary and obstetrical care.
Is your provider part of the family?
Jen Monroe fondly refers to her third pregnancy as “boring.” Baby Elliot followed all the rules, developed the way he was supposed to, and came into the world – pretty much – on time. The careful attention of his seven-year old brother Ethan and the wet kisses of two-year old Evan welcomed Elliot into a loving family.
Jen and her husband, Mark, of rural Castalia, had no misgivings when choosing where to receive prenatal care and deliver their son. “I have always gone to Winneshiek Medical Center, I was even born there. I never questioned who my doctor would be or if I would deliver locally. Winneshiek Medical Center is my hospital,” says Jen.
Kevin Locke, M.D., Mayo Clinic Health System family medicine physician at Winneshiek Medical Center serves as the Monroe family doctor. Jen says, “Dr. Locke delivered all three of our children. Over the years he has watched them grow, patched up their bumps and bruises, and seen us through all the childhood illnesses. He knows our family and I am completely confident in him.” When Dr. Locke suggested it was time to induce Elliot, Jen and Mark agreed.
Jen recalls walking into the WMC Obstetric Department. She says, “As soon as I walked through the OB doors, a calm feeling came over me. I had been there before, many faces were the same, and I knew that my baby and I were both in good, capable hands.”
Dr. Locke broke Jen’s water, and six hours later, Elliot was in her arms.
“The care was exceptional. I don’t remember ever having to push the call button in my room. The nurses anticipated my needs and made sure I was always comfortable – they took care of me,” says Jen.
