Eye surgery and injections expand at Winneshiek Medical Center

Access to specialty surgical services at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah has expanded.  Mayo Clinic Health System ophthalmologists (eye disease specialists/surgeons) Brandon Riemer, D.O. and Michael Scott, M.D. now perform cataract surgeries and eye injections twice a month at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah for patients wanting convenient access to high-quality surgical care.

Specifically, Drs. Riemer and Scott perform: cataract surgery, vitrectomy, intravitreal injections, and iStent.  Pre- and post-surgical visits are coordinated through Oneota Valley Family Eye Care in Decorah.

Both surgeons are based out of Mayo Clinic Health System Franciscan Healthcare in La Crosse, Wisconsin.  Dr. Riemer graduated from Hope College in Holland, MI with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, and received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Riemer completed his residency at Metro Health Hospital.  Dr. Riemer specializes in refractive cataract surgery and advanced technology intraocular lenses.

Dr. Scott graduated from University of Chicago in Chicago, IL with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, and received his medical degree from University of Iowa School of Medicine. Dr. Scott completed his residency at University of Utah School of Medicine.  Dr. Scott specializes in eye injections, diabetic retinopathy, vascular diseases and age-related macular degeneration.
