Winneshiek Medical Center receives top rating for patient experience
Winneshiek Medical Center received a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for patient experience. Just 266 of 3,478 hospitals nationally achieved five stars in the patient experience section of the CMS rating system, for care provided in 2019.
Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) is a national survey that asks patients about their experiences during a recent hospital stay. This survey is required by CMS for all hospitals in the United States. HCAHPS addresses communication with nurses and doctors, the responsiveness of hospital staff, the cleanliness and quietness of the hospital environment, communication about medicines, discharge information, overall rating of hospital, and would they recommend the hospital. The CMS rating is reflects the responses from this survey.
“The rating reassures our patients that they can trust WMC to provide an outstanding experience, as evidenced by the voices of their peers in these surveys,” says Maggie Busta, quality improvement registered nurse and leader of WMC patient experience. “The rating is also a way for staff to know the work they did, and continue to do, is making a difference to our patients. It is a wonderful achievement, and they should be proud.”
