WMC announces Star, Provider of the Year
Star of the Year
Leah Riehle, a member of Winneshiek Medical Center’s Information Technology department, received the 2015 Star of the Year award at WMC’s annual Staff Appreciation Celebration held the end of January.
Leah was selected as the 2015 Star of the Year because of her untiring efforts to meet patient needs by improving technology systems for the clinic and hospital. In the nomination, a colleague noted the positive attitude and fun that Leah brings to the team, saying, “Leah always has a smile and joke readily available to make the day easier. She strives for efficiencies and process improvement, and is always great to work with and puts the patient first. We are fortunate to have her!”
Summarizing the nomination narrative, Lisa Radtke, chief administrative officer of Winneshiek Medical Center, presented the award to Leah, stating, “Leah not only serves patients during the day, she is a volunteer to help others as an emergency responder. She views her calling, regardless of the hat she is wearing, as a way to serve others.”
Leah has worked at Winneshiek Medical Center since 1996, beginning her employment in various areas of patient care before joining Information Technology in 2005. She currently serves as Lead Healthcare Information Systems Analyst, a position that supports the electronic health record technology for the medical center.
Ms. Radtke concluded, “Leah serves others with a contagious joy, making others smile and laugh, and listening to and fixing their problems. Leah engages others across the organization and challenges them to be their best. I agree with the nomination… we are very lucky to have her.”
Provider of the Year
Winneshiek Medical Center named Andy Goodner, M.D. as the 2015 Provider of the Year at WMC’s annual Staff Appreciation Celebration held in January. Dr. Goodner, a family medicine physician, provides full-spectrum primary care, from birth through retirement, including obstetrics and women’s health, pediatrics, and the prevention and management of chronic health conditions like diabetes.
The colleague who recommended Dr. Goodner for the Provider of the Year award shared that, when referring to the many decisions he makes on a daily basis, Dr. Goodner can often be heard saying the phrase “… because it is the right thing to do.” Expanding on that theme, Robert Flinchbaugh, D.O., chief medical officer of Winneshiek Medical Center said during the award presentation, “Dr. Goodner always puts the needs of patients first, will personally call patients who are struggling with their illness and willingly helps colleagues when they are in need… because it is the right thing to do. Dr. Goodner demonstrates a deep dedication to Winneshiek Medical Center and our patients on a daily basis.”
Dr. Flinchbaugh went on to say, “Dr. Goodner is described by colleagues as an ‘excellent clinician’ with a clear commitment to excellence. He is highly respected by patients, peers, and staff and is very deserving of this honor.”
Dr. Goodner received his undergraduate degree from Iowa State University, and his medical degree from the University of Iowa. He completed his residency in family medicine at Fort Collins Family Medicine in Fort Collins, Colorado. Dr. Goodner joined Mayo Clinic Health System at Winneshiek Medical Center in 2014. Dr. Goodner is a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine. He resides in Decorah with his family.
