WMC Decorah Clinic welcomes new general surgeon
Winneshiek Medical Center and Mayo Clinic Health System are pleased to welcome general surgeon, Caroline Schwickerath, D.O., to the practice at WMC’s Decorah Clinic.
Referring to her practice, Dr. Schwickerath says, “I’m excited to join with other Mayo Clinic Health System physicians in Decorah to provide local, quality care. Whether it’s relieving pain or treating illness, improving someone’s quality of life is a very gratifying feeling.”
Dr. Schwickerath earned her bachelor of arts in biology from the University of Iowa, and her medical degree from A.T. Still University in Kirksville, MO. She completed her residency at Metro Health Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI. Dr. Schwickerath is a member of the American Osteopathic Association and the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons.
In addition to providing general surgery expertise for issues like gallbladder disease, appendectomies and hernias, to name a few, Dr. Schwickerath has special interest in women’s health care and melanoma. She also brings expertise in treating benign and malignant colorectal diseases with surgical intervention.
With strong family ties in the area, Dr. Schwickerath says, “It will be great to be closer to our family and we’ve always been fans of the northeast Iowa area.”
