Dawn Mulbauher joined the WMC Foundation Board of Directors in 2012 because the mission of the Foundation aligned with her own core values. She says, “When my family and co-workers have health care needs, I feel better knowing a local quality medical center is there for our needs. It has been important for me as a member of the community to help gather contributions for extra capital expenditures not available through local taxes and the budget process of the hospital.”

The rapid changes in rural health care require medical centers to seek private funds for capital growth and replacement of equipment, educational opportunities for staff, the purchase of new technology and more. Through an Annual Fund, the Foundation has conducted targeted campaigns for specific equipment needs. “Our extended community continues to show great commitment to local health care. In the past three years, donors have contributed dollars allowing WMC to purchase an ambulance, 3D/4D ultrasound technology and a fetal heart monitoring system,” says Holly Kanengieter, WMC Foundation Coordinator.

Though her term on the WMC Foundation has concluded, Dawn continues to be committed to the cause. She says, “I will continue to support WMC Foundation because projects help WMC to continue to be a leader in providing quality health care in our region.”

In 2017, the WMC Foundation Directors Dawn Muhlbauer, Dan Fretheim and Wendy Mihm-Herold completed their terms. Each term on the WMC Foundation Board of Directors is three years, and directors can serve up to three terms. Kanengieter says, “In some cases, individuals serve a full nine years, as did Dan Fretheim. He began on the Board in 2008 and has shown great commitment and leadership during his tenure. The Foundation and medical center want to extend a heartfelt thank you to outgoing board members for their service and dedication. They have inspired us to continue in our mission to transform and save lives by connecting donors with the region’s most trusted health care partner.”
