WMC honors volunteers during National Volunteer Week, April 23-29

Released: 04/21/17

Winneshiek Medical Center volunteer Susan Moore is one of 125 active volunteers who serve our community by donating their time and talents to their local medical center.

Susan Moore moved to Decorah when she retired in 2011 and was soon seeking volunteer work that would impact her new community and give her the opportunity to interact with many people. “My daughter recommended I check into the volunteer program at Winneshiek Medical Center. I loved it, and stayed!” she says. Susan works in the gift shop and at the information desk – both a few shifts per month. She also assists with special events held by the WMC Auxiliary, the medical center and anything else she is called to do. “I enjoy visiting with and helping other people. We are fortunate to have this hospital in Decorah and I am glad to be a part of it.”

Winneshiek Medical Center has over 125 active volunteers who are present in many areas. Volunteers also provide hand-crafted items for patients, help with mailings, share their gardening talents and sit on the Board of Trustees, Auxiliary Board and Foundation Board.

“Our volunteers are an invaluable asset to Winneshiek Medical Center,” says Karla Bakken, volunteer coordinator. “They give of their time and talents for one purpose – to enhance the care provided to the community. We are deeply appreciative of their willingness to serve.”

Winneshiek Medical Center volunteers will be recognized for 2016 hours of service at an April celebration. To learn more about the volunteer program at Winneshiek Medical Center, call the Volunteer Services department at 563-387-3036 or visit www.winmedical.org/volunteering.
