WMC named Top 100 Critical Access Hospital in US for fifth time
Once again, Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah has been named one of the iVantage Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals (CAHs) in the United States.
“The Top 100 Critical Access Hospital award is a wonderful way to begin 2017. As the most trusted partner for health care in our region, our physicians and staff maintain a commitment to providing quality health care to each and every patient. I am honored to serve alongside them,” said WMC Chief Administrative Officer, Lisa Radtke. This is the fifth time Winneshiek Medical Center has been honored with this designation and was the only hospital in this area to score in the top 100.
The iVantage Hospital Strength INDEX is the industry’s most comprehensive rating of US acute care hospitals, and the only one to include the country’s 1,300 CAHs. The results recognize that the Top 100 Critical Access Hospitals provide a safety net to communities across rural America – measuring them across eight pillars of hospital strength: Inpatient Share Ranking, Outpatient Share Ranking, Cost, Charge, Quality, Outcomes, Patient Perspectives, and Financial Stability.

“It’s more important than ever that rural hospitals proactively understand and address performance in the areas of cost, quality, outcomes and patient perspective. iVantage’s INDEX was designed to serve as this industry model,” said Michael Topchik, national leader of the Chartis Center for Rural Health. “Across the spectrum of performance indicators, there are rural providers that are writing the blueprint for success as they transition to value-based healthcare. Our analysis shows that this group of top performers exhibits a focused concern for their community needs.”
