WMC offers anxiety and depression coping skills group therapy

Released: 12/20/18

If you experience depression or an anxiety disorder, you may benefit from the Winneshiek Medical Center adult Anxiety and Depression Coping Skills Group. The closed group is for adults age 18 and older; offering a safe place to talk with others who understand, along with teaching positive coping skills and strategies to manage stress.

“Here people have ‘real time’ opportunities to communicate and practice new skills to effectively manage thoughts and emotions,” says Bridgette Hensley, Psy.D. Mayo Clinic Health System psychologist at Winneshiek Medical, and facilitator of the group. “This type of group therapy is more like a class – not a process group or support group as often depicted on TV – and it offers hope, valuable feedback and education, enhanced by the fact that no one feels they are ‘alone’ in coping with anxiety or depression.”

To join the group, adults age 18 and older should make an appointment with Dr. Hensley for a consult by calling Winneshiek Medical Center Decorah Clinic at 563-382-2911. The Anxiety and Depression Coping Skills group will begin meeting on Tuesday, January 15 from 5:15 to 6:30 p.m. for eight consecutive weeks. Space is limited; regular attendance is expected. Patients should check with their individual insurance provider to confirm coverage.
