Behavioral Health

WinnMed behavioral health professionals are dedicated to improving the lives of all patients. Common problems that our behavioral health team can help address include stress, insomnia, anxiety, panic, traumatic experiences and post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, self-harm, adjusting to major life events and transitions, and family problems. Patients can come in with the comfort of knowing that all counseling sessions are done with privacy and respect. Our professionals work to find personalized treatment solutions for all our patients.

Traditional Outpatient Psychotherapy

Individual therapy services are offered to meet community mental health needs. Our therapists meet with patients for an initial appointment to discuss and identify treatment needs. Traditional therapy services are often recommended to treat concerns such as chronic depression, chronic stress, anxiety disorders, posttraumatic stress disorder, self-harm, and family problems.

Integrated Behavioral Health (IBH)

Integrated Behavioral Health (IBH) is a coordinated system that combines medical and behavioral services to address overall health and well-being. The IBH team consists of  the patient, primary care provider, nurse, psychologist, social workers and nurse care coordinator. When enrolled, the patient may receive 4-6 individual therapy sessions (maximum 10), about 45 minutes in length, aimed at helping the patient build coping skills, reduce symptoms of distress, or reach specific behavioral goals. Talk to you your primary care provider to see if IBH is right for you.

Note: IBH therapy sessions are generally covered by health insurance under the Mental or Behavioral Health Benefit.  Contact your insurance provider to understand your coverage prior to scheduling services.

Group Therapy

Access to mental health care is a top health concern of our community, according WinnMed’s Community Health Needs Assessment (2019). To address this need, the WinnMed Behavioral Health team has created additional access to mental health care for patients by increasing options for group therapy at Decorah Clinic.

Claire Haedike, Psy.D., Mayo Clinic Health System psychologist, says, “Group therapy is another way to meet patient needs in our community.  Group therapy may be recommended in addition to individual therapy, or it may be a good stand-alone option. Our goal is to help patients manage their mental illness through teaching appropriate skills and providing support at the level they need.”
