Emergency Department

The Emergency Department (ED) is staffed by a dedicated, experienced team of physicians, nurses, paramedics and registration staff. The ED has a total of 10 rooms and is a level IV trauma certified hospital. Physician services in the Emergency Department are provided by Mayo Clinic Health System.

Ambulance Service

Winneshiek Medical Center Paramedic Services, based in the Emergency Department, is a group of highly skilled paramedics and emergency medical technicians (EMTs) who provide Ambulance / EMS response to all of Winneshiek County. They respond to accidents and other emergencies and are supported by local volunteer first responders, fire, and law enforcement agencies. Winneshiek Medical Center utilizes life-saving aeromedical transportation (helicopters) to tertiary care centers, including Mayo Clinic (Mayo One), Gundersen Health System (Gundersen Air 2), MercyOne North Iowa (Mercy Air Life) and the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics (Air Care).

Winneshiek Medical Center Paramedic Services is staffed 24 hours a day by certified paramedics and emergency medical technicians (EMTs) specially trained in emergency care for the sick and injured.
